How Long Does a Boiler Installation Take?

Most boiler installations take one day. Ralf arrives in the morning, removes the old unit, installs the new boiler, connects the thermostat, flushes the system, tests every radiator, and hands over the Gas Safe certificate before leaving.

Combi, System, or Conventional — Which Boiler Do You Need?

Combi Boiler

A combi (combination) boiler heats water on demand — there is no hot water tank or cylinder. Hot water is available instantly whenever you turn on a tap. Combi boilers are the most popular choice in London because they are compact, efficient, and ideal for flats and smaller homes with one or two bathrooms. If you have a single bathroom and no high simultaneous demand for hot water from multiple outlets, a combi is almost certainly the right choice.

System Boiler

A system boiler works with a hot water cylinder (usually in an airing cupboard) to store a large volume of hot water ready for use. This makes it better suited to larger homes or properties where multiple people need hot water at the same time — for example, two showers running simultaneously. A system boiler delivers a more consistent flow rate than a combi under simultaneous demand. It requires space for the cylinder but does not need a cold water tank in the loft, making it more efficient than an older conventional system.

Conventional (Regular) Boiler

A conventional boiler works alongside both a hot water cylinder and a cold water storage tank, typically located in the loft. This is the oldest type of central heating system and is increasingly being replaced by combi or system boilers. However, conventional systems remain appropriate for older properties with low mains water pressure, where a combi boiler’s flow rate would be inadequate.
